Children who are taking medication orally may only return 24 hours after the start of the medication and when the child has not displayed any adverse reaction to the medication.
  • LCS Pre-School must be contacted within 24 hours if your child contracts a communicable disease (i.e. chicken pox), or parasite (i.e. lice). After a suspected or confirmed communicable disease or parasite has been diagnosed the child may only return to the school with a written medical consent.

Sign-in and Sign-out Daily

Release of a Child Policy

Parents need to indicate who is designated to pick up the child, and have that person sign-in and sign-out on the provided sheet, each day the child attends pre-school. Only persons designated to pick up a child will be allowed to do so.

Late Pick Up: If the parent/guardian has not picked up or called by 11:30 am/ 3:00pm, the caregiver will try to contact the family, then other authorized persons, and needs to notify the Ministry of Children and Families, if no contact was possible, no later than 12:30 noon/ 4:00 pm. A late fee of $1.00 per minute is charged after 11:40am/3:10 pm (10 minutes grace). If late pick up is an ongoing problem and reasonable efforts have been made to resolve it, notice of termination may be given.

Unauthorized Pick Up: The parent/guardian is required to notify the caregiver in writing if someone else, other than the authorized persons, will pick up the child. Please provide name, phone number, and description of the person. The person will be asked to show photo identification. If necessary, police will be called for assistance.

Alleged Impaired Pick Up: It is the caregiver's responsibility, to the extent that it is possible, to release a child to an unauthorized person who is unable to adequately care for the child. If the caregiver believes the child will be at risk, the caregiver will offer to call a relative or friend to pick up the person and the child, or offer to call a cab to pick them up. If the person is driving a vehicle, the caregiver will explain that driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is against the law and that the caregiver is obligated to ensure the safety and well-being of the child. If the presumed impaired driver chooses to get in the car with or without the child, the caregiver will immediately notify the police and provide a description of the car and geographic vicinity. If the caregiver believes the child is in need of protection, the caregiver will call the Ministry for Children and Families.

Custody and Related Court Orders: If a custody or court order exists, a copy of the order needs to be placed in the child's file. The guardian is responsible for providing up to date and accurate information concerning the legal guardianship of the child. Without a custody or court order on file, the caregiver cannot deny access to the non-enrolling parent. If the non-enrolling parent is not listed on the pick up list, the policy on unauthorized persons will be implemented. The guardian will provide all consents.

Discipline and Guidance Policy

LCS Pre-School recognizes and respects the individuality and uniqueness of each child, and their God-given talents. When assisting the child in finding more appropriate ways of dealing with other children, adults, school regulations and feelings, the teacher will address the unacceptable behaviour rather than the child personally. The teacher will model a caring attitude, and will not label the child as 'bad', 'naughty', or give other negative remarks.

The teacher will use re-directions as the primary method of discipline and guidance. Positive "time-out" will be used as a 'cooling off' period from which the child can return when s/he feels ready to rejoin the group.

If unacceptable behaviour occurs regularly, the teacher will notify the parent.

Each student will have 1 month probation period during which the school will assess how well it can serve the needs of each child, and therefore the child may be expelled from pre-school during this one-month period.

Snack Policy

Children are to bring a nutritious snack and/or drink to the school each day they attend. Please send only a small snack/drink in a re-usable container, labeled with your child's name. All snacks should come prepared, e.g. oranges peeled, apples cored and sliced, etc. Please ensure your child has a nutritious, healthy snack, therefore fruits, veggies, sandwiches are acceptable however, sugary foods are not. Please indicate allergies and special diet. Snacks are to be 2 foods from the 4 food groups, e.g. banana and water, apple and juice, crackers and milk, carrots and soy milk, granola bar and yoghurt, etc.

Because of allergies: please do not send nuts and nut products.

Disposable cutlery and plates will be used during snack time.

Birthday celebrations

Birthdays are special, and will be celebrated at school, however sweets need to be limited, and unfortunately, birthday cake candles are not permitted.
